Recommended Law School Application Timeline


To Apply to Law School You Must...
Sign-Up - for the listserv: Pre-Law-Advisor
send e-mail to: listproc@ucdavis.edu
no subject
in the body of the e-mail write: subscribe pre-law-advisor your name

  • Register  - online for LSAT/LSDAS -
    If you are applying for a fee waiver you must register at least two months in advance
  • Take  - the LSAT
    prepare at least 6 - 8 weeks in advance
  • Send  - transcripts, from all undergraduate institutions you attended, to LSDAS
  • Obtain 2 or 3 recommendation letters, you may have school specific letters also,
    have them mailed to LSDAS; download the forms for writers
  • Request  - school's catalogs or view the schools' Web sites
  • Write - a personal statement
    Have critiqued by Pre-Law Advisor and others
  • Fill Out - the application online through LSDAS
  • Complete - and turn FAFSA in
    Jan 1 - March 2 (earlier is best)
  • Email applications ( preferred) or mail
  • Note: Watch for advertisements about Application Information
    and Personal Statement Workshops

Timeline For 2008

FEBRUARY/MARCH - 2007
LSAT/LSDAS Information and Test Books available at Advising Services, South Silo

Register for LSAT/LSDAS

APRIL/MAY - 2007
Explore LSAT preparation alternatives"Law School Admission Test Preparation"
and the" Personal Statement" handouts, as well as others

from Pre-Law Advising Services. Other information relating to the legal
profession, law school admissions, and more can be found on
the Pre-Law Advising Web site.


JUNE - 2007
LSAT- June 11
(register by May 8)
Start working on Personal Statement, start researching scholarship Web sites
and at the Scholarship Office. If taking LSAT in September, prepare in summer


SEPTEMBER - 2007
LSAT- September 29
(register by August 28)

Because the test is not offered at Davis anymore, to get your first choice for a testing center, register as early as possible after June 11.

Some law schools start accepting applications. Apply to law schools online through LSDAS
Bring draft of Personal Statement to be critiqued by Pre-Law Advisor


OCTOBER - 2007
Request 2 or 3, up to 4 letters of recommendation, in addition may have school specific letters
(at least one from a professor) - mail to LSDAS


NOVEMBER - 2007
(The deadline for many Early Admissions is Nov. 1)
Pre-Law Advising recommends that applications for regular admissions be
completed no later thanThanksgiving

DECEMBER - 2007
LSAT- December 1
(register by October 30)

JANUARY - 2008
Send fall quarter transcripts to LSDAS and schools requesting them


FEBRUARY - 2008
LSAT - February 2
(register by January 2)
February 1 is the deadline for most major law schools
COMPLETED application must be postmarked by this date; "complete" means

includes LSDAS Report; Turn FAFSA in by March 2

MARCH/JUNE 2008
Wait to hear from law schools and put down deposits to hold seat

LSDAS/LSAT Fee Waivers

If you need a fee waiver for the LSDAS/LSAT see the Pre-Law Advisor.
To be considered for a fee waiver prior to a test, your fee waiver application
and registration form must be post marked as follows:
