Departments and organizations may offer awards and grants to undergraduates to support their research.
The Chancellor's Award for Excellence
in Undergraduate Research/Dean Keith Simonton Prize
Each year a senior who has completed outstanding research in any academic subject while at Davis that crosses formal disciplinary lines receives the award. Interdisciplinary research is that which cuts across the boundaries of two or more disciplines or which integrates the theories, methods, and issues of two or more disciplines. Seniors will be nominated by chairs, program directors and faculty whom they consider to be in the top five percentile of undergraduate researchers. Ellen Hansen Memorial Prize
Awarded annually to a UC Davis woman student, whose original creative project best demonstrates the bravery and independence of women. For more information visit the Women's Resources & Research Center Web site.
Presidents Undergraduate Fellowship (PUF)
This program supports undergraduate students doing research or creative projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty members. Students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply. Visit the PUF Web site for more information.
Sigma Xi
Sigma Xi Grants-in-Aid of Research program grants of $1,000 or less to students from all areas of the sciences and engineering.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)
This program supports undergraduate students doing research or creative projects under the guidance of UC Davis faculty members. Students from all discipline areas are eligible to apply. Visit the SURF Web site for more information.
Undergraduate Research Award in Sociology
Students who complete a substantial piece of sociological research in the course of their studies are encouraged to submit that work to the Committee on Undergraduate Curriculum and Programs (CUCP) to be considered for the Annual Undergraduate Research Award in Sociology. A call for papers is usually put out in late May and a decision is made by the end of June. For more information visit the Sociology Web site.
